Austin Marathon 2027
The one Sunday a year when downtown is not drivable, whether you are running or not.
The marathon starts at 2nd and Congress and finishes at 9th and Congress, in front of the Capitol. In between it runs the river crossings, South Congress, Hyde Park, and the UT campus before coming back downtown.
The closures themselves are manageable. What is not manageable is that the course cuts the city into pieces for most of the morning, so the few crossings left open become the only crossings, and everyone finds them at once.
The detailed 2027 closure map posts closer to race day. We will update this page when it does. Until then, plan around the course rather than around a specific street list.
Getting there, and getting out
Both ends of the race are on Congress
Start at 2nd and Congress, finish at 9th and Congress at the Capitol, with a finish festival downtown afterward. The downtown core is not usable for through traffic during the race, and the finish area stays busy well after the last runners are in.
The river crossings are the real constraint
The course crosses the Colorado, which takes bridge capacity out of service during the exact hours everyone needs it. The hard trip that morning is south Austin to downtown, or downtown to south Austin. If your day involves crossing the river, that is the part to plan first.
Runner logistics are a two-part problem
Getting to a start line inside a closure ring is a different job from getting away from a finish line inside the same ring. The workable version is an early drop as close to the start as the closures permit, then a pickup at a set point outside the ring rather than at the finish itself. Standing on Congress after 26.2 miles waiting for a car that cannot legally reach you is a bad end to a good morning.
If you are not running, you are still affected
Sunday morning flights out of ABIA are the most common casualty. Anything crossing the course that morning needs a much earlier departure than the map suggests, and the map will not show you the queue at the open crossings.
Book this one early
Race morning is a narrow window of very concentrated demand across the whole city. It is not a day where a vehicle turns up on short notice.
